About CNT and the Rowing Club... |
Clube Nautico de Tavira ("CNT") was founded in 1993, despite sailing activities dating back to the 1950's. Situated
at the mouth of the Rio Gilao, close to the Rio Formosa exit into the Atlantic Ocean, CNT enjoys the
calmness of Rio Formosa as well as access to ocean sailing.
As well as initiating young people into the sport, every Easter it organises the
Tavira Nautical Week, which consists of a series of sailing championships.

The calmness of the Rio Formosa, a shallow 8km stretch of water sheltered from the Atlantic by large
sand banks, lends itself perfectly to rowing. For this reason, CNT offers both sailing and rowing on different
bodies of water. Tavira resident David Mapley founded the rowing arm of CNT in 2024, having rowed for over 50
years in Europe Asia/Pacific and North America.
